Austin Doula Care Values Statement

 

At Austin Doula Care, we have core values that lead every decision we make and how we show up for our community.

  1. Native Land Acknowledgement: We know we work and live on stolen indigenous lands. We recognize the Jumanos, Tonkawa, Lipan Apache, Coahuiltecan, Comanche, and Sana tribes that were stewards and elders of this sacred land.

    We are committed to honoring this land as if it were our own. We are grateful to this land and the ways it supports us and those around us. We are honored to continue to support those in their childbearing (and beyond) years upon it.

  2. Reproductive Rights are a Human Right. Just as we will support your decision of where and how to give birth, we also support the decision to continue a pregnancy or not.
    We are advocates for Reproductive Justice and Rights and if you are in need of help in any way, we will offer our non-judgmental and evidence based support.

  3. Not All People Who Give Birth are Women. We know this, we are constantly unpacking our biases and the narratives we have grown up with and learning more so we can support ALL people in their pregnancies. You will notice the language on our page is non-gendered, this is because we support all people in their journeys.

  4. Black Lives Matter. This is a big one and is very important to us. Living in Texas, one of the states in our country with the highest maternal mortality rate, we are extra aware of the privilege white people have when giving birth. We know to be pregnant, give birth, and raise children as a Black individual is very different than doing it as a white person. This is why we invest our time and resources into organizations that are protecting Black lives.   5. Y’all Means ALL. We are allies for the LGBTQIA+ community and strive to create safe spaces for those with those identities.

We are radical in our beliefs for human rights and will fight beside you for yours.
